Abstract
This research presents the findings of a public sentiment study conducted in the Ayer Kuning State Constituency (DUN), Perak, focusing on public perceptions of the governance of the Perak State Government and the implementation of the Perak Sejahtera 2030 development agenda. The study was carried out over one month and involved 513 respondents representing diverse demographic backgrounds. The objective of the study was to understand the aspirations, concerns, and level of public support toward the state leadership and its development initiatives. The findings indicate strong public support for the leadership of the Perak Menteri Besar (81.87%) and the Perak Sejahtera 2030 policy framework (84.02%), while Barisan Nasional remains the dominant political party in the constituency with 84.80% support. The study also reveals that respondents place strong emphasis on issues such as healthcare access, poverty reduction, employment opportunities for youth, and social cohesion. Although many respondents acknowledge receiving government assistance, there remains a need to enhance the effectiveness of economic support and social safety net programmes. Post–Ayer Kuning by-election observations in April 2025 indicate a decisive victory for the Barisan Nasional candidate, supported particularly by Malay voters and younger voters who have shown increasing alignment with the coalition. Key contributing factors include the unity narrative, leadership popularity, and development initiatives perceived as credible by the public. The study concludes that continuous monitoring of public sentiment is essential to support responsive and inclusive policymaking. The aspirations of the Ayer Kuning community highlight the need for development policies that prioritise social justice, economic opportunity, and political stability for long-term societal well-being.
